ILLUMINATING

My body holds great power when experiencing the Earth’s natural elements, feeling bigger and greater than what it is. Through performance art, video, photographs and soft sculpture. I’ve executed this desire while placing my body in natural spaces around me. I explore these landscapes while continuing to grow my understanding about identity and my experience as a feminine body. 

The significant elements of this series revolve around the sun illuminating my form, creating a connection between the sun, body, and the feeling of warmth. Shielding sunlight with a common gesture of raising your hand to block out the sun resonates with feelings of being grounded to the Earth. Layering becomes an important part of this series of work, whether that is in video or fabric, by providing a sense of connection through a sequential way of becoming whole. Each of these significant moments highlight true comfort and growth.

Though the brightest time of day to the darkest time of night, I am constantly illuminated by our Earth.
